If you are not familiar with the Relay for Life events that span the nation, I invite you to join me to experience it for yourself. At 10:00 am I will lead a 45 minute Zumba® Fitness demo after which you can walk a few laps and explore the team tables and learn more about various forms of cancer. The event supports the American Cancer Society.

FREE Zumba® Fitness demo
10:00 am – 10:45 am
I am dedicating this Zumba® Fitness demo in memory of a little girl who was a dear friend of my friend Leticia Toliver who first introduced me to Relay For Life of Castro Valley in 2011. Madeline Cashion was born on Oct 17, 2005. She was diagnosed with a large cancerous mass the size of a grapefruit in her abdomen in Sept 2010 (just weeks before her 5th birthday). She lost her battle just before midnight April 28, 2014. My demo is dedicated to her family and to the memory of this lovely young lady. Praying God’s peace and comfort be with her family. Learn more about Madeline at http://www.stbaldricks.org/kids/mypage/3862/.
We are in the third month of 2014! How are you doing with your fitness goals? Are you still on track, or have the daily tasks of life taken over your exercise time?
It is never too late to get back on track! Make a point to set aside time for your personal well being. Exercise is a very important element of good health. Find an activity you enjoy and MAKE TIME to engage in that activity consistently. Whether it’s walking at the marina, going to the gym, swimming laps at a local pool, or taking your favorite fitness class, set aside the time and money to make it happen. You can invest in your health now or fill the pockets of the medical and pharmaceutical industries later.
As an incentive, I am offering a special for the month of March only:
- MARCH MONTHLY PASS ONLY $45 (regularly $55)!!! That’s $5 per class and 20% off the regular price!
- Bring a friend and their first class is HALF PRICE! That’s ONLY $4!
Don’t miss out! Take advantage of these deals and tell a friend!
See you soon! :)
Hi everyone! Yes, I still have classes at Destined 2 Dance every Monday (7:30 pm) and Wednesday (7:00 pm) evening. I have been neglecting my blog for a while, but that is all about to change. I will be posting here daily going forward and am about to launch my new fitness website that expands my professional health and wellness offerings beyond Zumba® Fitness.
Along with being a licensed Zumba® Fitness instructor, I am also a Personal Trainer certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) offering 1-on-1 and small group training, along with boot camp style group fitness classes.
So, stay tuned for more from me on nutrition, fitness, and healthy living.
Talk to you soon! :)
Having a parent with type 2 diabetes and seeing how debilitating the complications of the disease can be first hand has set me on a mission to make every effort to prevent developing the disease myself, and ignited a passion to make sure others are aware of the disease – and more specifically, its complications.
Moreover, as a health and wellness professional, I want to ensure people know what measures can be taken to reduce risk of developing the disease or, if already diagnosed, to successfully manage it. I will be sharing info about diabetes – its various types, and complications. Please feel free to share with others.
Here are some quick facts.
Total prevalence of diabetes:
Total: 25.8 million children and adults in the United States—8.3% of the population—have diabetes.
Diagnosed: 18.8 million people
Undiagnosed: 7.0 million people
Prediabetes: 79 million people*
New Cases: 1.9 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed in people aged 20 years and older in 2010.

I serve as a volunteer Community Initiatives Ambassador with the Bay Area chapter of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and on the 2014 Napa and Bay Area Women’s Series Tour de Cure planning committees. I am committed to supporting the ADA in its efforts to STOP DIABETES.
It’s been a minute since I last posted. Busy, busy, busy these days. It’s all good – forward momentum moving me toward my goals and into new and exciting adventures. Zumba® Fitness is a mainstay for me that has served in my becoming established as a respected fitness professional. These last three years have been simply amazing and I am so happy I took the leap, despite my not being in “perfect” shape when I started. It has definitely been a journey and I have truly been blessed by the many new friendships, partnerships, and alliances I have established along the way.
As 2014 quickly approaches, I stand excited as I broaden my professional services to include personal training, involvement in major event planning, and bicycle advocacy. I am also forging a deeper alliance with the American Diabetes Association as my passion for raising awareness and educating people about this devastating chronic disease that affects millions waxes strong.
Zumbawithsharon.com will remain dedicated to my Zumba® Fitness activities. However, I will be launching a general fitness and nutrition site in 2014 that will be more comprehensive covering my nutrition education, personal training, boot camp, and cycling related activities. So check back often and look for the link to this new blog.
Thank you for taking a minute to check in with me. I’ll be posting again soon!
